The terms for using our website and SMS service.

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the website and communications of the Community Arts Council of Richmond ("CACR", "we", "us" or "our"). By accessing or using this website, or by opting in to our text messages, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

Who we are

CACR is a registered charity (registration number 118870112RR0001) based at 12431 No. 2 Road, Richmond, BC V7E 2G3. We champion the arts in Richmond, British Columbia.

Using our website

You agree to use this website lawfully and respectfully. In particular, you agree not to:

  • Use the site in any way that breaks applicable laws or regulations;
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the site, its servers, or any connected systems;
  • Interfere with or disrupt the site or other people's use of it;
  • Copy, scrape, or harvest content or data from the site, except as permitted by these Terms or with our written permission.

Member accounts

Some parts of the website require an account. If you create one, you are responsible for keeping your login details confidential and for all activity under your account. You agree to provide accurate information and to keep it up to date. We may suspend or close accounts that are used improperly or in breach of these Terms.

Member and user content

If you submit content to the website, such as an artist profile, article, or images, you keep ownership of your content but grant CACR a non-exclusive licence to display and use it in connection with our website and activities. You confirm that you own or have the rights to the content you submit and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights. We may edit or remove content at our discretion.

Intellectual property

Unless stated otherwise, the content on this website, including text, graphics, logos, and images, is owned by CACR or its licensors and is protected by copyright and other laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or use it for commercial purposes without our permission.

Memberships and donations

Donations are processed by our partner CanadaHelps and are subject to their terms. As a registered charity, we issue tax receipts in accordance with Canada Revenue Agency rules. Membership fees and any refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis; if you have a question about a payment, please contact us at info@richmondartscouncil.ca.

SMS services and messaging

Community Arts Council of Richmond uses SMS/text messaging to communicate with our community for the purposes below.

Description of SMS use cases

We use SMS/text messaging to:

  • Enquiry responses: Reply to questions submitted through our contact form.
  • Registration confirmations: Confirm memberships, program and event registrations.
  • Reminders: Send reminders about events, exhibitions and programs you have signed up for.
  • Updates: Communicate important updates or changes.
  • Program and event announcements: Share news about our programs, events and exhibitions (marketing, opt-in required).
  • Fundraising and appeals: Share donation and fundraising campaigns (marketing, opt-in required).

How to enrol in SMS services

You can enrol in our SMS service by:

  • Completing the contact form on our website and checking the SMS consent box;
  • Providing your mobile number and opting in when you register or contact us;
  • Requesting SMS enrolment in person.

Types of messages you will receive

Based on your consent, you may receive:

  • Transactional messages: Service-related messages including replies to your enquiries, registration confirmations, and reminders. You choose to receive these by opting in when you contact us.
  • Marketing messages: Program and event announcements, fundraising appeals, and other promotional updates. These are optional, and you can opt in or opt out at any time without affecting transactional messages.

Message frequency

Message frequency varies based on the type of messages you opt into:

  • Transactional messages: Frequency varies based on your enquiries and interactions with us.
  • Marketing messages: Up to 4 messages per month. We respect your time and avoid over-messaging.

Message and data rates

Standard message and data rates may apply based on your mobile carrier's plan. The Community Arts Council of Richmond does not charge for sending text messages, but your mobile carrier may charge you for receiving them. Contact your mobile carrier for details about your plan.

Consent is not required

You do not need to consent to receive marketing SMS messages as a condition of becoming a member, donating, or using any of our services. Transactional messages are sent only when you opt in on our contact form.

Carrier liability disclaimer

Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. By opting in to receive SMS messages from the Community Arts Council of Richmond, you acknowledge and agree that:

  • Mobile carriers (such as Rogers, Bell, and Telus) are not responsible for the delivery, timing, or content of text messages;
  • Carriers are not liable for any delays, failures, or errors in message transmission;
  • Network conditions, carrier outages, or technical issues may affect message delivery;
  • The SMS service is provided "as is" without warranties from mobile carriers;
  • You should not rely solely on SMS messages for time-sensitive information.

Age restriction

You must be at least 18 years of age, or have the consent of a parent or legal guardian, to opt in to receive text messages from us. By opting in, you confirm that you meet this requirement and that you own or are authorized to use the mobile number you provide.

SMS opt-out instructions

How to stop receiving text messages

You can opt out of text messages from the Community Arts Council of Richmond at any time using any of the following methods:

  • Reply STOP: Text STOP to any message you receive from us. You will receive one final confirmation message.
  • Reply HELP: Text HELP to any message to receive information about the SMS service, including opt-out instructions.
  • Contact us: Email us at info@richmondartscouncil.ca and ask to be removed from our SMS service.

What happens when you opt out

  • You will receive one final confirmation message acknowledging your request;
  • You will no longer receive text messages from the Community Arts Council of Richmond;
  • Your opt-out applies to both transactional and marketing messages;
  • You can still become a member, take part in our programs, and contact us through other channels;
  • We will communicate with you by email or in person instead;
  • Your mobile number remains in our system with an opt-out flag so we do not message you again.
