Faces of Richmond 2025

Artist Requirements and Expectations

Canvas and Medium

  • Artists will be provided with a canvas for the portrait.
  • Canvases are all 9” x 12” in size. Artists may remove the canvas and replace it with another material if desired, however please ensure you adhere to the 9” x 12” frame size.
  • Canvas pick up will be at The Arts Connection (Unit 5 – 12491 No 2 Road, Richmond), Weekdays 10am to 8pm, Saturdays 9am to 4pm, or Sundays 9am to 1pm.
  • If you cannot pick up the Canvas at The Arts Connection, please let us know upon application and we can try to arrange collection at a mutually agreeable transit station.
  • Mediums accepted will be anything that can be applied to the canvas, including oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, pastel, charcoal, or other similar mediums.
  • Please do not frame your canvas, as we are aiming for uniformity in size for display purposes. We recommend painting the canvas edges where possible.
  • Artwork MUST BE PREPARED FOR HANGING before submission. Please add hanging wire to the back of your piece to ensure it can be displayed.

Portrait Deadline and Drop Off

  • All Portraits must be completed by Thursday May 29th 2025 by 6PM.
  • Completed Portraits must be dropped off to The Arts Connection (Unit 5 – 12491 No 2 Road, Richmond) in person.
  • If you cannot drop off the Portrait at The Arts Connection, please let us know upon application and we can try to arrange collection at a mutually agreeable transit station.
  • A photograph of your completed portrait should also be submitted to info@richmondartscouncil.ca on or before the drop off deadline.
  • Photos should be straight on, clear, and cropped to have no background.
  • Important Note: Withdrawing from the project after commitment will likely result in your assigned senior not receiving a portrait, as replacements are hard to find last minute. Please only agree to participate if you are certain that you can maintain your commitment.

  • Portraits will be displayed at the Steveston Post Office Art Gallery for the month of July 2025.
